Forms of user driven innovation

On our reserach we have uncovered severeal ways of working with user driven innovation in a company perspektiv. We have developed a figure with 2 dimensions illustrating how users can be a part of an innovation process: A user can either be directly or indirectly involved in the innovation process, and the knowledge being tapped from the user can be related to either acknowledged or unackacknowledged needs. This gives 4 broad areas of how companies can work with user driven innovation: a) User tests, based on marketing understanding; user ethnography, where users are observed and interviewed; user innovation, where advanced users innovate together with the company; and user participation, where users partiticate in shaping the ideas for the innovation.
